Dear Second Grade Families, 

Lindsey Caplin, one of our 2nd-grade teachers, will be on maternity leave this fall. We expect her to return to Portledge after the December holiday. We have experienced a change in our long-term substitute plans for Lindsey’s class since the recent myPortledge ‘23 communication you received. 

We are excited to announce that Jacob Cooney will be joining us as the full-time, long-term substitute for Ms. Caplin’s class. Mr. Cooney was a substitute teacher with us last spring, and we are delighted to welcome him back in this full-time capacity. Mr. Cooney’s first career was in film writing and production. Your child may be interested in watching the movie, “Junkyard Dogs” which he wrote and directed. He went back to school to pursue his passion for working with, and teaching, children and earned his Masters’ degree in Elementary Education. Mr. Cooney is married to his wife, Dana, and they have two children, Emmeline (7) and Rhys (4). 

Please join us in welcoming him to second grade.
